Florida Keys Vacations....Can't We Stay Longer.....?OK - I know of no-one who EVER wants to go back to reality after Florida Keys vacations! I think there is a strange kind of "Keys Psychology" that kicks in as you go deeper through these resorts, with Key West, literally, at the end of the road. I love movies. Take "True Lies" for example - remember Arnie in that fantastic Jet and car chase? This took place along the arrow-straight US Highway 1 Bridge from the Keys to Miami. It's up there with my all time favourites! Here's the bridge he and his buddies messed up!

The Florida Keys DNAYou can plan your Florida Keys vacations around so much as well as that exciting feeling of just being "out there" - being virtually at the end of the world does it for most people! The Florida Keys are an enigma with a unique "DNA" all of their own. They're tropical and have an almost Caribbean feel, and offering all that great ocean related stuff makes Florida Keys vacations rate higher than most other places. Dream of sport fishing, casually reclining on the fly bridge of a fast, chunky boat, looking out over an azur sea? You get it in the Keys. Snorkeling, scuba and kayaking are all activities you'll spend the rest of the year day-dreaming about.

If you look at your map, the Florida Keys follow a 115 mile long, kind of South-westerly hook, or arm, from Miami, joined up by bridges and causeways ( like the one in the True lies pic above.)The first Key you'll reach is Key Largo which I feature in my diving page.
Key Largo is blessed by having the John Pennekamp State Park just offshore. If all things underwater are your thing, Key Largo resorts are a must-check-out for you. Numerous Florida Keys Dive companies make a very good living keeping you entertained in a well-equipped, safe environment. And Check Out Those Great Key Largo Restaurants!
Next down is Islamorada ( just below Key Largo.) The emphasis here moves to sport fishing - especially bonefishing. Sailfish are a key focus in Islamorada during the winter. Check out some great Islamorada resort hotels, condos and other accomodation options. Right in the middle is Marathon Key - lazy days of summer. Many great Florida resorts here in this not so famous Key. Go on down...next is Big Pine Key and the Lower Florida Keys ....feel your blood pressure drop rapidly ( in a good way!) Sloooowwww.
And last of all ( and maybe most famous) is Key West. This is nicknamed "the Last Resort" by some, and is actually as far South as you can go in the US. So quirky, so individual, so .... out there! Duval Street is wonderful.
Bed and Breakfasts...Ok....opinion time....I think for the Florida Keys, its hard to beat Bed and Breakfasts.
You see..for the Florida Keys, the more intimate, friendly hospitality on offer in Bed and Breakfasts kind of "wins you over." Hotels have their ( luxurious) place, but the Keys does this kind of thing SO well. Key Largo, Key West and Islamorada are included.
Florida Keys Vacations - Resort Style...You like them. I love them ( though see above for my own opinion for what its worth!) But there's no doubt - they provide the icing on this cake. If you've got the dollars - go for it. Take a special friend and let the Keys work their magic.
Key West Resort Hotels and their amazing staff add so much to a vacation in the Keys. Some of the world's finest Chefs demonstrate their skills every day in the many Top class restaurants right across the Keys. Check out some of the great Florida Keys restaurants Key West Motels Are Definitely Worth Considering....Every year thousands of vacationers to the Florida Keys flock to Motels. Down here they are really very good offering excellent value for money as well as superb location. So popular I've done a page of the best Key West Motels
Underwater And Shorebased Adventure - Key Largo...
All told...in considering resorts in Florida Keys there are a couple of important factors. The Keys are all great...but consider whether you might want the best of both worlds. City AND island life. If that's you, I recommend Key Largo. It's close by Miami - just shoot across the Overseas Highway and you're virtually there. The adventurous will find Key Largo Diving exhilarating.
This is a world class area for snorkelling and diving, not least because of the spectacular John Pennekamp Coral Reef. There is even an Underwater Hotel!
Several wrecks slumber off the coast which give great dive opportunities. I think Key Largo resorts and hotels are the "Gold Standard" way to go down here if you have both the time and the money to travel down here for those Florida Keys vacations. You want that easy livin' feeling at its utmost down here that's what Florida Keys vacations do best! Oh...almost forgot. I've got another movie in my head! Did you know African Queen ( yes the boat used in the movie of the same name,) resides in Key Largo. It offers regular short trips, and is a wonderful addition to the harbor.
